Se encuentra en el t\u00e9rmino municipal de Castillo de Locub\u00edn (Ja\u00e9n). Dista en l\u00ednea recta de unos 7 kms.\u00a0 de la poblaci\u00f3n de Alcaudete, en sentido noroeste-oeste, y 5,5 kms. de Castillo de Locub\u00edn, en sentido sureste. Desde la ciudad de Ja\u00e9n, se accede por la N-432 hasta la aldea de Ventas del Carrizal, y desde aqu\u00ed, siguiendo el camino del Cortijo del Ba\u00f1o hasta el cerro.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mg-sm text-justify\" align=\"justify\">Se trata de una meseta alargada en sentido noreste-suroeste y presenta en todas direcciones pendientes abruptas. Tiene unas dimensiones de 500 metros en su eje m\u00e1s largo, por unos 270 metros en el lado m\u00e1s estrecho y una superficie de unas 10 hect\u00e1reas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mg-sm text-justify\" align=\"justify\">Los arque\u00f3logos destacan especialmente sus valores paisaj\u00edsticos con una vegetaci\u00f3n aut\u00f3ctona de encinar y otras especies propias del monte bajo mediterr\u00e1neo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mg-sm text-justify\" align=\"justify\">El yacimiento ha sido objeto de algunas limitadas intervenciones arqueol\u00f3gicas e incluso se comenz\u00f3 a trazar las l\u00edneas generales de un Plan Director para abordar el tratamiento integral del mismo desde la investigaci\u00f3n y protecci\u00f3n a la difusi\u00f3n y puesta en valor, aunque solo se avanz\u00f3 en ese sentido.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mg-sm text-justify\" align=\"justify\">La realizaci\u00f3n en Cabeza Baja de una excavaci\u00f3n de urgencia en 1986, motivada por el incremento y extensi\u00f3n del expolio arqueol\u00f3gico, ofreci\u00f3 una serie de datos arqueol\u00f3gicos claves para definir la entidad del yacimiento. Los datos obtenidos en la excavaci\u00f3n se\u00f1alan que el oppidum de Cabeza Baja de Encina Hermosa se funda entre finales del siglo III a.C y mediados del siglo II y desarrolla un poblamiento que debe seguir a grandes rasgos el t\u00edpico urbanismo ibero del Alto Guadalquivir.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mg-sm text-justify\" align=\"justify\">La primera ocupaci\u00f3n continuada de Cabeza Baja (principios S.II y finales del S.III a.C) fue probablemente por contingentes de origen t\u00fardulo llegados desde Obulco, si bien no hay que destacar otros n\u00facleos como Iponoba, Tucci o incluso los n\u00facleos ib\u00e9ricos de Alcal\u00e1 la Real.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mg-sm text-justify\" align=\"justify\">Las excavaciones se\u00f1alaron la existencia de diversas estructuras; se demostr\u00f3 la existencia de una muralla ib\u00e9rica alrededor de la meseta.
